TeamPick FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the questions that come up most often when people use TeamPick. If you're new, we recommend starting with the how to use guide.

Getting started

Does it cost anything? Do I need to sign up?

It's free. Joining needs no sign-up; creating a group needs a Google sign-in. Anyone who comes in through an invite link or code gets an anonymous account automatically and can pick teams and record results right away. Only the person who creates a group has to sign in with Google, which keeps the owner record safe. Once signed in, your groups and your owner role follow you even if you change devices.

How many players and teams can I have?

A group roster can hold anywhere from 2 to 30 players, and you can split them into 2 to 6 teams. You can't have more teams than players taking part.

Does it work on iPhone or PC?

Yes. TeamPick is a website, so Safari on iPhone, Chrome on Android and any browser on your PC can all view the same group together. There's also an Android app, which lets you get push notifications.

How do my friends join?

In the “Settings” tab, under “Invite”, you can copy a link and send it, share the 6-character code, or bring up the “QR code” for people to scan. The code goes into “Join with code” on the home screen.

Does everyone on the roster have to join?

No. The roster is just the list of nicknames to split into teams, so one person can run the whole thing from a single phone. The only difference for people who join is that they see the same screen and can get alerts.

What can the owner do, and who takes over?

Only the owner can rename, merge or clear records, delete games, set the group password, link Discord, hand over the owner role and delete the group. Every member can draw teams, record wins, add or remove people, and change the team count, draw mode and group name. If the owner doesn't visit for 14 days, the most recently active member signed in with Google takes over automatically. A group with no owner (for example one made by the Discord bot) goes to the first member who opens it signed in with Google.

Picking teams

Is it really random?

With Balance teams off, it's completely random. TeamPick even shuffles which team becomes Team 1 and the order names appear within a team, so the same person isn't always at the top. Team sizes differ by at most one player.

What happens if two people tap “Pick teams” at the same time?

Only one result survives. Whichever is saved first wins, and the other screen briefly shows “Someone picked first” before displaying the teams that were already set.

How do I leave out people who didn't show up today?

Switch them off under “Playing” in the “Teams” tab. You don't have to remove them from the roster, and their records stay intact.

Pinball race or Ladder only shows the result, no animation. Why?

With more than 16 players, Pinball race and Ladder would be too crowded on a phone screen, so they show the result without the animation. The way teams are decided doesn't change. There's more detail on the draw modes page.

In Card flip, can someone else tap when it's my turn?

Yes. The screen shows whose turn it is, and the card tapped on that turn goes to that player no matter who taps it. Each card can only go to one person, so simultaneous taps never overlap.

Records and win rates

How is win rate calculated?

It's the number of games a player won in that group divided by the number of games they played. You can see games, wins, losses and win rate for every player in the “Stats” tab.

What is “Best duos”?

It's a ranking of pairs by their win rate in games where they were on the same team. Only pairs who've played at least 3 games together are listed.

How does Balance teams work?

It uses player win rates to pick the split where team average win rates are as close as possible. It only applies to Instant, and players with fewer than 3 games count as 50%. The full math is on the Balance teams page.

Can I delete a result I logged by mistake?

Yes. Delete that round from the recent games list in the “Stats” tab. Win rates and Best duos are recalculated immediately.

I just want new teams without logging anything.

On the “Which team won?” card that appears after “Pick again”, tap “Don't record”. You'll get new teams and nothing is saved.

Notifications

How do I get results in a Discord channel?

In Discord, edit the channel, open Integrations, create a new webhook and copy its URL. Paste it into “Discord webhook URL” in TeamPick's Settings and save. The team list is posted to that channel every round. Only the group owner can change the Discord setting.

How do push notifications work?

Members who joined through the Android app and turned on push under “My notifications” get a phone notification whenever teams are picked. It stays off until you turn it on. The person who picked doesn't get one, and tapping the notification opens the group directly.

Will I get the same alert more than once?

No. Each round is sent exactly once per channel, no matter how many people are viewing the group and even with both Discord and push turned on.

Privacy and managing groups

What data is stored?

Only the group name, nicknames, team results and win/loss records, plus whatever is needed for the alerts you turned on. Discord webhook URLs are kept on the server only, and other members can't see them. Details are in the privacy policy.

How do I delete a group?

Long press the group on the home screen, or tap the button at the bottom of the “Settings” tab. If you created the group, the group and all its records are deleted. For other members, it's only removed from their own list.
